A tender animated short about memory, love, and the passage of time. As Juan gazes upon a tranquil lagoon from his window, he is transported back to the days of his youth, revisiting the joy, tenderness, and love he once shared with the most important person in his life. Through his memories, the film unfolds as a quiet journey through nostalgia, where cherished moments ripple across the surface of the past.
I had the opportunity to compose the music for Recuerdos de una Laguna during November 2024, making it my first film-scoring project. The emotional warmth and heartfelt nature of the animation inspired a musical language rooted in the tradition of the Mexican bolero, complemented by elements of classical music and contemporary pop.
The score draws from the characteristic instrumentation and expressive qualities of the bolero to evoke the intimacy, romance, and nostalgia at the heart of Juan’s memories. These elements are combined with additional orchestral and contemporary textures, allowing the music to move naturally between the warmth of the past and the reflective atmosphere of the present.
Working on Recuerdos de una Laguna was an especially meaningful experience and an important first step in my journey as a film composer. I am deeply grateful to director Dalia Cardona and the entire Recuerdos de una Laguna team for inviting me to contribute to such a beautiful project. It was a pleasure to help shape the emotional world of the film through music and to explore how Mexican musical traditions could interact with animation and cinematic storytelling.
