MY BIOGRAPHY

Luis Angel Salazar Tamayo is a Mexican composer and performer whose musical journey began at the age of six. His early studies included violin, recorder, and choral singing before he discovered the harp and later dedicated five years to the cello. Following his voice change, he returned to singing as a tenor and pursued a degree in music at CEDART (Centro de Artes) José Clemente Orozco, where he discovered his passion for composition.

He continued his studies at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where he studied composition with Michael Gilbertson, Marti Epstein, Tim McCormack, and Dan VanHassel. During his studies, Luis Angel has developed a diverse compositional portfolio spanning orchestral, chamber, vocal, electronic, and interdisciplinary works.

His music has been performed by ensembles including the Boston Conservatory Wind Ensemble, Sinfonietta, Marimba Project, Prometheus Ensemble, and BOCO Pops, as well as through independent projects and student recital series. His work has also led to commissions and collaborations with ensembles such as the Hinge Quartet.

Beyond the concert stage, Luis Angel has composed for film, television, animation, and video games. His projects include Culpable, a student film at Brown University; Moon Tea, a student television production at MassArt; and Dualidad de un Viaje, a commissioned string quartet performed by the Burbank String Quartet at the Boston Public Library. He has also contributed music to international and Mexican game jams, composing for several games developed by Heavy Pulse.

As a performer, Luis Angel is an opera singer and recorder player with the Tempo Primo Quartet. He has participated in the Opera Híbrido Lab Festival and has studied with renowned vocal teachers, including Javier Camarena.

As his artistic practice continues to evolve, Luis Angel seeks to create music that bridges electronic sound with orchestral and Western classical traditions. His work is driven by an interest in timbre, experimentation, collaboration, and the exploration of music across artistic disciplines, with the goal of developing a distinctive and contemporary musical voice.
