FILM

Moonflower is a psychological horror short film in which anxiety and uncertainty become an unsettling presence within the mind of its protagonist. As reality becomes increasingly unstable, the film creates a tense and eerie atmosphere where the boundaries between perception and fear begin to blur.

I had the opportunity to compose the original score for Moonflower, directed by Adrienne Defaria. The film’s psychological nature and constant sense of unease provided an exciting opportunity to explore a darker and more experimental approach to film scoring, particularly through low-register electronic sounds and timbral textures.

The score is built around deep electronic basses, atmospheric layers, and evolving timbral elements that reinforce the film’s unsettling environment. Rather than relying solely on traditional melodic writing, the music often functions as part of the film’s sonic world, gradually building tension and creating a sense of uncertainty beneath the protagonist’s experience.

One of the greatest challenges of the project was its extremely short two-week production timeline. I composed the score while simultaneously preparing my bachelor’s graduation recital and other orchestral works that were approaching their premieres. Despite the demanding schedule, the experience pushed me to work efficiently and make decisive musical choices while remaining closely connected to the director’s vision.

Horror and psychological thrillers have always been among my favorite film genres, making Moonflower an especially exciting project to be part of. I am deeply grateful to Adrienne Defaria for trusting me with the music and for giving me the opportunity to explore such an atmospheric and sonically challenging film. It was a pleasure to contribute to a project where sound plays such an essential role in shaping tension, fear, and psychological uncertainty.
