PROMETHEUS

Sinfonietta

“Prometheus” is a seven-and-a-half-minute work for Sinfonietta, inspired by the Greek myth of the Titan who defied the gods to bring fire to humanity. The piece reflects both the triumph and tragedy of his sacrifice, presenting the story from humanity’s perspective as an expression of gratitude toward the figure whose gift brought light and possibility to humankind at the cost of eternal suffering. The work explores the contrast between Prometheus’s heroic act and the immense consequences of his defiance. Through the music, I sought to capture both the grandeur of his gift and the weight of the punishment that followed, portraying Prometheus not only as a mythological figure, but as a symbol of sacrifice, resilience, and the pursuit of knowledge. From a compositional perspective, “Prometheus” was also an important learning experience for me.

It was the first time I had written for an ensemble of this size, presenting new challenges in orchestration, balance, and instrumental coordination. Working with a sinfonietta pushed me to think more carefully about how individual instrumental voices interact within a large ensemble and how to maintain clarity while creating a full and powerful sound. I extend my sincere gratitude to conductor Vimbayi Kaziboni and the Boston Conservatory Sinfonietta for their inspiring performance and for helping bring this work to life.
