MISMA SANGRE

PROJECT

JULY, 2025

COMIC

Haunted by years of abuse, a young man takes the life of his father in a desperate attempt to escape his suffering. But as the dust settles, he is confronted by a chilling realization: in seeking liberation, he has begun to resemble the very monster he hated most. Misma Sangre explores the blurred boundaries between justice, vengeance, and self-destruction, questioning whether violence can truly offer freedom—or simply perpetuate the cycle it seeks to break.

Originally conceived as a digital comic by artist Patricio Salazar, Misma Sangre was accompanied by an original musical score designed to enhance the dark and tragic atmosphere of the story. I had the opportunity to compose the music for the project during July 2025.

The score is built around a contrast between dark electronic sonorities and orchestral writing. Low, rumbling electronic basses establish an atmosphere of tension and unease, reflecting the protagonist’s years of suffering and the increasingly oppressive nature of his circumstances. As the story reaches its conclusion and the protagonist recognizes what he has become, the musical language shifts dramatically toward orchestral textures, creating a stark contrast that mirrors his psychological transformation.

This transition between electronic and orchestral sound worlds serves as a musical representation of the story’s central conflict: the desire to escape violence ultimately leads the protagonist toward becoming part of it.

I am sincerely grateful to Patricio Salazar for trusting me with the music for this project. Collaborating with such a talented artist—and my brother—was a rewarding experience, and Misma Sangre allowed me to explore the use of contrasting timbres and musical languages to reinforce a deeply tragic narrative.

Although originally created as a digital comic, I hope to see Misma Sangre eventually brought to life as an animated project, where its visual and musical worlds can continue to evolve together.
